It’s Hard to be Green at Timmie’s

Earlier today, and for the second day in a row, an employee at the Commissioners/Adelaide Tim Horton’s store offered an apology when I requested my coffee in a china mug. I was given the coffee in a paper cup (ie instant wasteful garbage) with the explanation that “we’re getting a new one [dishwasher] because it broke so much.” Asked when they expected to have a new one, she shrugged and quipped “It’s coming from China.” I’m still trying to find out why they can’t continue to provide china mugs and wash them by hand. My guess is, they simply don’t care enough.

  • They usualy have enough to do then worry about handwashing every mug.

Or perhaps they are un-aware of this thing called “hand-washing”, it is a fairly new concept after all.

  • Dennis says:

Dishwashing in a restaurant or other such location, has certain requirements, one being the temperature of the water. It is so high that one cannot simple hand wash dishes as you or I would at home. It would not be considered sanitary enough. Which, is why the need a dishwasher.
