My 2008/11/12 Email to Sgt. Tom

It's one of our democratic duties to speak out

Don’t kid yourself. Police enforcement is as much a complaints-driven political system as is public transit or anything else.

More video for you to examine.

The first one was taken Nov 4, 2008 at 04:59pm and clearly shows the vehicle which was completely blocking the pedestrian crossing at Commissioners/King Edward. Drivers ignoring the lane marking where they’re expected to stop is a common occurrence at this problem intersection. And despite my previous complaints about driver behaviour which makes it unsafe for pedestrians trying to cross here, I’ve never seen a cruiser parked/monitoring the intersection.

The second one was taken this afternoon Nov 12, 2008 at 03:04pm and is another example of an eastbound driver making an illegal left-hand turn onto Pond Mills Rd. while I was in the process of legally crossing the intersection. Again, despite my numerous complaints about this intersection and Const. Riley’s report, I’ve never seen a cruiser parked/monitoring the intersection.

Two fatalities this month so far since Halloween. Better enforcement is needed. Perhaps now you’ll start to consider my request (http://www.frommybottomstep.com/2007/11/18/45-drivers-stung-in-tarave l/) that you become more proactive by conducting some sting operations like they do in some U.S. jurisdictions with success.

Greg Fowler.
