Silence When it Suits the LFP
Stone-throwing editors shouldn't work in glass offices
This is the rejoinder that I just submitted in response to Paul Berton’s recent editorial (“Silence Unacceptable on Springbank Dam”; LFP; 2008/11/01):
Paul: I agree with you that the city’s reluctance to release more of the investigation’s findings is troubling. But then, City Hall secrecy is nothing new. And neither is London Free Press secrecy. Which is the point of this rebuttal. In the past I’ve attempted to get your newspaper to cover various issues, not least of which is the question of pedestrian rights and pedestrian safety here in London. You couldn’t be bothered with any of it. Not even the police report re Commissioners/Pond Mills, or the class-action that I started to organize re Eagle/King Edward walkway. So where does Paul Berton get off talking about secrecy? BTW, I’d have sent a copy of this to the LFP’s public editor, but apparently (acc. to your response to my ‘Reader Rant’ podcast) you think that you can wear multiple hats at the same time (ie Editor-in-Chief, reader advocate, LFP apologist).
