And Even More About the LTC Hike
The rest of us should be offered the same deal
In addition to LTC’s Fare Hike and More About the LTC Fare Hike, here’s some more for you to chew on. And if it makes you sick, I don’t blame you.
Larry Ducharme (London Transit’s General Manager) is quoted (”Yearlong bus pass discussed…“; 2008/11/25) as saying that the estimated cost on next year’s 12-month bus pass for UWO students is $163.66.
He’s quoted as saying “It’s an excellent deal” and “The price is definitely reasonable.“
By my calculation, that’s only $13.64 per month.
Now compare that to what other transit users are being forced to swallow (there were NO public participation meetings held about the fare increase, and it didn’t go before ETC for discussion), including OW and ODSP transit users.
I’ll say it again. Larry Ducharme and John Ford ought to be sent packing back to Toronto. And at least half of our City Council members along with them.

I know people who apply to UWO and Fanshawe, register, and pick up their bus pass and then drop out just to get a discounted bus pass. Even with the costs of registering and paying the required deposit the end cost of the year long bus pass is worth it.
The city wants to keep their money for their next pet project. I’m sure they have some ridiculous money waster on a back burner somewhere just waiting for the right moment to spring it on us.
I agree fully, this rate hike is ridiculous, given that the service is full of long waits, long transfer times, poor bus service, rude drivers, unknowlegable drivers and people who don’t follow the rules for riding on the bus.
Also as a mother of 2 teens who attend highschool may I just say that the exclusion of TEENS from having a buspass of their own is beyond comprehension. They can choose to buy tickets, 5 for a ridiculous sum, or swallow the adult price for a buspass.
While we’re at it, how about bike carriers for our buses?
Family fares (similar to what they do for the Doors Open London).
24/7 service would also be a blessing to those employees of companies like Teletech and Stream who have to go home at 2a.m.
Need I go on?
Chris: They’re supposed to be trying bike racks on just two routes as a pilot project. You can read about it in this 2008/09/06 post: Bike Racks on LTC Buses
