Pedestrian Dies After Sunday’s Collision
According to an article on the LFP website (”Pedestrian dies after being hit by car“; 2008/12/05), 55 y.o. Joan Pettigrew died yesterday from the injuries sustained from being struck by a car on Sunday.
Sgt. Tom O’Brien always seems to have some unspecific excuse for not laying a charge against drivers in these cases. In this instance, he’s quoted as saying that “environmental conditions played a role in the incident as well as the choice to cross Hyde Park Road at that location.”
What conditions? What location, exactly? Is he trying to suggest that the woman was engaged in an illegal behaviour without actually saying so?
Why is there always so little information revealed when pedestrians and bicyclists are struck by automobiles? Are we likely to see any follow-up investigative reporting by LFP or A-News?
In the latest police stats submitted to CPSC, there is still no mention of pedestrian-related incidents. And the column headers are still illegible. And is usual whenever the Police Chief appears before one of the City Hall committees, I note that his 2008//12/08 submission to CAPS was verbal only.

London driving is the worst I’ve experienced. And I have lived in 6 different cities / major towns in 3 different countries since I reached driving age so I think that’s saying something. How many lives lost will it take to improve matters here?
