What’s $80,000 Worth?

According to the story in today’s paper (”Bus driver returns $80,000 Brinks bag“; London Free Press), LTC operator Rick Bazinet was simply offered a free coffee by the security company employee to whom a bag full of money was returned.

Quite apart from the self-respect that Rick’s action preserved, it will undoubtedly also have a significant and positive impact on other people for many years to come.

I’m referring to all of the impressionable young minds who will hear or read the media coverage of this incident, and the percentage of those individuals whose personal behaviour will be modelled by Rick’s example. And all the people who are subsequently influenced by them, etc.

‘Value’ is more than just the measure that we attribute to currency. And it’s subjective.

Hey, Rick … Merry Christmas buddy.

Good point. Kindness tends to spread. It’s almost better that he wasn’t rewarded with much, though; it’s even more of a good deed if he got nothing in return other than knowing he did the right thing, and will inspire others to do the right thing. That should be enough.
