Police Release – Girls Night Out
It was an unusually high number of female drivers arrested for impaired driving over the weekend. Police laid seven impaired driving charges on the weekend and three of them were females. Generally females make up a very small percentage(13%) of impaired drivers so 3 out of 7 is very unusual.
In one case a 40 yr of woman was charged with impaired driving after a single motor vehicle collision at Talbot and Central Ave at 6:55pm on Friday night. At 2:40am (Saturday morning) police observed a vehicle travelling west on King Street which is one way for eastbound traffic. The officer stopped the car and found the 30 yr old female driver quite impaired. She was arrested and found to have over twice the legal amount of alcohol in her system. On Sunday morning another driver was caught driving the wrong way on King Street. He failed the roadside test and was arrested and charged with impaired driving.
On Sunday morning at 2:50am police stopped a vehicle on Richmond Street and found the female driver under the influence of alcohol. A 25yr old London woman was arrested and her blood alcohol concentration was well about twice the legal limit.
One of the seven arrests was an 18 year old male driver.
The RIDE program this weekend also dealt with nearly 1200 drivers and conducted 24 roadside breath tests. One of the drivers was arrested and charged with impaired driving and three other drivers had their licences suspended for 12hrs.
