Police Release – Animal Abuse
On Tuesday February 24 2009 at 9:30 am Police were called to a residence on Wharncliffe Road South to check the welfare of a dog. Upon Police arrival, a male could be heard yelling and screaming at a dog followed by the sound of the male striking something in the apartment, then the sound of a dog whimpering. Police knocked at the door, the resident refused to open the door and the male continued to yell at the dog followed by the sound of something being hit in the apartment. Members of the Emergency Response Unit attended and attempted to speak with the male. The male eventually opened the door for the officers and Police apprehended the male. The male began to struggle and actively resist the officers. The taser was utilized to gain compliance of the male. The two female boxer dogs; an 8 year old and a 10 month old puppy are currently in the care of The London Humane Society. The dogs have been examined medically and are fine.
Jacob Stewart, 25 years of London is charged with one count of cause pain, suffering or injury to an animal, Obstruct Police and Resist Arrest.
He will be appearing in court today.
