Theft from vehicles is a continuous problem that can be prevented. Most of these crimes occur due to the opportunity that is provided for the criminal to commit the offence. Prime locations for this type of crime are parks, arenas, sports complexes, athletic facilities, and restaurants. Offenders will watch these locations and observe your actions. You must always plan ahead to avoid becoming a victim and this can be accomplished by keeping the following crime prevention tips in mind;
· Never leave valuables visible in your vehicle. Secure items out of sight. This should be done prior to arriving at your destination. A prime example of this is laptop computers, Ipods and GPS units left in vehicles when attending restaurants.
· Never secure your wallet or purse in the glove box or trunk. Fraud related crimes result when offenders steal credit cards and debit cards. This type of crime often goes unnoticed initially as there is minimal damage to your vehicle and only specific ID is removed.
· Watch for suspicious persons when you arrive at the mentioned locations. Report any such individuals immediately to site management, security, or police.
