Truth In Advertising
Fast food restaurant chains spend LOTS of their money on advertising so that you’ll be inclined to part with yours. And part of the cost of their expensive ads is for the photographs that appear in them.
The photographers they hire spend HOURS arranging the sets. The product has to be FRESHLY prepared and very CAREFULLY assembled. The lighting angles and intensity levels are the result of HUNDREDS of hours of study and practice.
And the humans who are orchestrating the perfectly prepared product? They’re being AMPLY compensated for their labor.
Contrast that with what normally happens in the actual fast food workplace.
How fussy are you about the fast food that you order?
Don’t despair! According to PC World, the “Would you like fries with that?” that you hear in 2025 may originate from an order counter robot, who will presumably then deliver to you an order that was prepared by a food preparation robot.

I don’t watch tv so I don’t see the tv advertisements.
And I don’t buy fast food either – except for a coffee once in a while.
So I guess I’m very fussy about it…..
The ad vs reality pictures were very funny though!
It’s not much different than photoshopped models selling clothing or movies or whatever. I don’t think there’s anything particularly wrong with showing an ideal version of a product for advertising; people should be aware that it’s not quite what they’re actually getting.
I also think fast food gets criticized a lot, but it’s not that bad. A hamburger is a well balanced meal, with meat, grains, cheese, and vegetables all in one. You could do a lot worse than having a few burgers a week.
