London PhotoWalk: Take 2
Time to "invade" Old South.
After a successful London PhotoWalk in April which found 14 photographers converging on Old East London, many have expressed interested in getting together once again for another installment of the London PhotoWalk.
With that said, there is no time like the present. Now that everyone should be recuperated from PodCamp London, I think its a great time to get together once again.
The following is what I propose:
Date: Sunday May 24th, 2009
Time: 11:00 AM (up for discussion, see below)
Place: South London/Wortley Village
Meeting Place: Little Red Roaster, Wortley Village
Ending Place: Wortley Roadhouse?
It seems as if the good weather is here to stay and that the interest in another PhotoWalk is there.
If subsequent PhotoWalks take place in London there have been some fantastic ideas which have been thrown around by the community. James Wilkinson had the idea to have a “scavenger hunt” type of walk, assuming that each person would have to collect photos that meet the criteria of some type of list.
Cool idea!
Another suggestion was that we should head out one evening (around sunset) to capture the city in some stunning light.
I like the way the community seems to be driving this.
Make sure to follow the chatter on Twitter. Keep an ear out for more information as the day comes closer.
As before, suggestions are more than welcomed (and perhaps needed). Leave a comment with your thoughts.

This sounds like a ton of fun. I have one question – I realize that for convenience that midday is a good time to get together – but that’s the two hours where the light is the absolute worst for taking photos (no decent shadows at noon). Have you considered having one of these walks earlier or later in the day to catch some better lighting?
Nik.
That was brought up last time and it is more than valid and I fully agree with you. I think at this point we are just trying to find a time that works for the most people to get together (as you noted) and I think once we have a good amount of people interested it might be “easier” to move it.
Personally I’m all up for moving it either way.
What time would you suggest? how much earlier later would you prefer?
I normally try and shoot within 2-3 hours of sunset or sunrise – the closer the better. In the early days of the movies, the 2 hours before sunset or after sunrise were referred to as “golden hour” and most shooting took place between those times. There’s enough shadow to provide sufficient contrast and enough long shadows to help create more interesting compositions, and the light has a wonderful warm colour to it.
Regardless – I’ll see you at the walk.
Sounds good. I’ll try to be there. You did a fine job on the last one, held in East London.
Cheers,
Ken
Hey all.
Just a reminder that the next PhotoWalk is in under a weeks time.
Please check out the newly formed londonphotowalk.ca website for full details.
Cheers
You going to add it to the Events Calendar?
Also, in case you missed it, take a look at Speaking Lens if you wouldn’t mind? I should be able to make it to the next photowalk, but in case I don’t it’d be nice if somebody recognized Christine when she shows up in order to welcome her.
Greg: I will be adding it, its just that some urgent things came up this weekend that have prevented me from doing anything additional at this time.
As for the Speaking Lens, yes I’ve seen it and I plan on talking with Christine at the upcoming walk and hopefully in the future as well.
