City Council ratifies CUPE Local 107 contract
City Council voted last night to ratify a two-year tentative agreement with Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 107.
The agreement, approved by CUPE Local 107 membership on June 12 by a 98% margin, provides a 1% wage increase in 2010 and a 2.65% increase in 2011. The agreement also provides for a change in domicile requirements allowing retirees to collect certain retiree benefits while living in Canada.
CUPE Local 107’s current contract will expire December 31, 2009 and the renewal agreement will take effect January 1, 2010. The Local represents approximately 550 outside workers.
“The members of CUPE Local 107 are happy to sign this agreement,” said Local 107 President Eric Townshend. “This pact offers the outside workers a fair deal during this economic downturn and supports our work for Londoners. Local 107 would like to thank Mayor DeCicco-Best, London City Council, Jeff Fielding and his staff for working with us to make this collective agreement possible.”
“We are pleased with this agreement and we thank the bargaining committees on both sides,” said Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best. “The agreement demonstrates a partnership and collaboration with Local 107 that benefits us all.”
