“Don’t Take Safety For Granted”

A London Police Service media release:

As exams end, graduation is over and summer begins, young students will be trading in their homework books for bathing suits, bicycles and skateboards. The last thing on their minds may be safety.

The London Police Service asks parents and guardians to be vigilante with the children with reminders to play safe. Speak to your children about the rules of the road when cycling, walking or driving. Tell them to respect private property and dangerous locations such as construction sights, bridges, lakes, swimming pools and railway areas.

A 2004 study showed that if a novice (new) driver was involved in a fatal collision it likely involved speeding, recklessness, single-vehicle and rollover crash. Driver fault is the leading cause and almost half of 16-year-old drivers involved in fatal motor vehicle crashes were not wearing seat belts.

Parents, be a teacher. Set the rules. Don’t take safety for granted.

Be a strong mentor for safety and have a great summer!
