New Funding for R.I.D.E. Checks

Released to the media by London Police Service yesterday:

Chris Bentley, MPP London West and his colleagues Khalil Ramal and Deb Matthews with the London Police Services announced today that, the Ontario government is helping to reduce motor vehicle collisions and save lives by supporting police officers who conduct Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot checks.

The London Police Services will receive $45,000 for this year’s RIDE efforts to keep the roads safe in London. This will allow the police service to conduct approximately 35 RIDE programs. With the previous amount of funding ($22,500) RIDE spotchecks were concentrated in the last three months of the year for the “Festive Season”. This increase in money allowed RIDE programs in London to begin earlier in the year and included most of the long holiday weekends during the summer as well.

RIDE programs continue to be a great opportunity to educate the motoring public about the perils of impaired driving as well as a great tool to catch and arrest drivers who still aren’t learning the lesson.
