Weekend Traffic Report

A London Police Service media release:

This past weekend was a very good one for road safety in the city. There were no serious injury collisions or fatalities and only one impaired driver was arrested despite the RIDE program activities.

Over the weekend the RIDE spotchecks dealt with over 1,300 drivers and only 5 were found to have over the .05 limit. They had their licence suspended for the 3 day period.

There were two notable traffic incidents; in the early morning hours of Friday October 16th, police were called to the Sunoco fuel depot at Oxford and Industrial Road. A motorist had inadvertently driven into the compound and gotten his vehicle stuck on a gravel berm. When police arrived they found a 19yr old male in the truck. This male was arrested for impaired driving.

On Friday morning (October 16th) a traffic officer conducting speed enforcement on Riverside Drive caught an 18yr old male driving eastbound toward Wharncliffe Road at 118km/hr in the 50 km/hr residential area. This male was charged under the “racing” legislation, his mother’s vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days and he was also charged with driving without a licence. He has a court date set for the end of November.

All in all it was a very good weekend on London’s roads.
