An Overview of Crime Prevention Week
A London Police Service media release:
November 1st through 7th is Crime Prevention week. This years’ focus is on community partnerships so watch for London Police Crime Prevention Unit and Auxiliary Officers in your neighbourhood throughout the week. We will be promoting several crime prevention programs including Auto Theft Reduction, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and Citizen’s Academy.
Individual events will be put out to the media on a daily basis, but the following is a week-long overview:
- Monday Nov.2 – Donation of 2 vehicles for use in the Secondary School Resource Officer program and new “Police Pals” – LMP, Oxford Dodge and Oakridge Ford representatives will be presenting aforementioned items to the London Police Service– At Police HQ, in front of new building.
- Tuesday Nov. 3 – Auxiliary Police Officer showcase – Various programs implemented, 16 new recruits writing final exam, in preparation for their street patrol training.
- Wednesday Nov. 4 – “Take your kid to work day”
- Thursday Nov. 5– St. Leonard’s Society Partnership – Criminal Charge diversion program, Restorative practices and alternative procedures for dealing with youth and the legal system. There will hopefully be a formal announcement of a funding grant from the Provincial Government for the Safer Communities grant.
There will also be a separate focus on Theft from vehicles tied in with the formal partnership between the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the Insurance Bureau of Canada. They will be holding a press conference in Toronto on Thursday and the initiative is one that the London Police Service will be actively involved with…..more to follow.
- Friday Nov. 6– New Emergency Command Vehicle unveiling. Provincial and other grants, the new vehicle will be unveiled and high level dignitaries will be at London Police Headquarters for the ceremony. This will be a formal press conference, with more to be released prior to this event.
