Municipal WiFi
Remember my City Hall Shocker post in which I expressed my hope for increased City Hall support for WiFi in London?
There was a staff report to the 2009/11/18 meeting of Board of Control about the recent award of an RFP for WAN (wide area network) services. Specifically, that authorization be given to negotiate a joint City/TVDSB/LDCSB 10-year contract with Bell Canada. It seems that the only other bids received were from Atria Networks and Rogers Communications.
Prior to the last ETC meeting, I received a verbal reply to an email inquiry that I’d sent about this.
It seems that the contract is for the provision of internal Internet services only. IOW, the general public won’t receive any additional Internet access as a result of this significant expenditure.
Pity.
