Questionable Charities

A London Police Service media release:

At this time of year the London Police Service is reminding the public to be wary of whom they donate money to.

There have been a number of complaints this year of people collecting money in the name of various charities.

Officers yesterday spoke to a male who had set up a table on Richmond Street near Oxford collecting money for a charity based out of the Toronto area. When questioned by officers as to where the donations would go, the male advised that he got 15 % for setting up the kiosk and then kept another 35 % for his time and trouble. The rest he would turn over to his supervisor who would then take their cut. Eventually what remained would make its way back to the head office.
