Walkability?

I used my cellphone to shoot these photos while I was on my way downtown this morning. (click on photos to view larger versions)
The first (west-facing) pic is the pedestrian island at Adelaide/King.
The second (west-facing) pic is the transition from the sidewalk to the roadway at William/King. I could have shot photos at all the intersections, because the situation was pretty much the same. At all four corners.
This City has a disrespect for pedestrians, particularly those who are elderly/young/disabled. What’s the good of clearing sidewalks to a pathetic minimum standard if you can’t get across the road to go from one block to another?
The third (west-facing) pic shows the King Street entrance to the downtown Hilton Hotel. Why London’s Planning Department and the politicians ever allowed a public sidewalk to be interfered with in this way to begin with is a question that they won’t respond to me about. But this situation just heaps even more disrespect on pedestrians, particularly those who are elderly/young/disabled. What are they supposed to do? Grow wings and fly? Crawl out on to the dangerous one-way roadway?
