FMBS Awareness Message
On Wednesday afternoon at 04:47 pm a 10 y.o. boy was struck by a northbound vehicle on Quebec Street. This is a heavily-traveled street during the morning and evening rush hours and one of several area streets that the Old East Village Community Association has raised concerns about.
In this case, London Police were quick to issue an awareness message to pedestrians, probably because the boy reportedly ran out onto the street from between parked cars and that was apparently determined to be sufficient reason to not lay a charge against the driver.
How quick was the message to pedestrians issued? According to the message header, it was sent out yesterday at 09:34 am.
What I found equally notable was the fact that a media release about the incident itself, the actual collision, wasn’t sent out until almost an hour later at 10:25 am.
What I also find very notable is that London Police have issued no new information about the hit & run which occurred at Pond Mills & Deveron on Saturday, or the fatal collision which occurred at Cheapside & McNay also on Saturday.
In those original media releases, London Police did not offer any description about the possible behaviour of the pedestrians at the time that they were struck.
London Police have not issued any Driver Awareness Alerts following the Saturday incidents.
Anti-pedestrian bias? It’s hard to think otherwise.
