Drawing Attention to Pedestrian Safety is Appropriate

Following the latest serious vehicle/pedestrian incident which was reported by OnlineLondon under a ‘London Pedestrians Going Down Like Bowling Pins‘ headline, local tweeter Suzee C suggested that it was inappropriate. I strongly disagree.

Nobody in this community demonstrates more than I do, care and concern for the rights and safety of pedestrians. Nobody lobbies local government about pedestrian issues more than I do. And this blog reflects a lot of that citizen activism.

What is it about the headline that’s inaccurate? Nothing, that’s what.

The incidence of vehicle/pedestrians collisions, and the percentage of those collisions that result in injuries to pedestrians, is apalling.

What’s even more apalling is the apparent lack of police enforcement of pedestrian rights in this City and the way that pedestrian issues are given so little attention by our City Council.

I will continue to draw attention to this serious issue, and I won’t be dissuaded by suggestions that I’m being politically incorrect. If other people want to demonstrate a concern about pedestrians, I suggest that they start to lobby local politicians and law enforcement to step up to the plate.
