Mobilization for Climate Justice-London (M4CJ), an environmental justice group here in London, Ontario, has issued a statement, trying to make the case to other environmentalists that they should support London’s transit workers (A.T.U. Local 741) in their strike against their employer, the London Transit Commission (LTC).
Saturday May 2, 2009 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. is Compost Value Day.

Local merchants are offering incentives to those who are prepared to be “plastic free.”
Putting water into a plastic bottled is not itself a maniacally evil act. However, when mass culture is duped by the imagery of picturesque, high mountain springs and healthy, slim models sporting H2O name brands, the whole thing gets a little out of control.

Paul Berton published an editorial recently about London’s pathetic green transportation ranking (”London’s green transit efforts still need work”; LFP; 2008/11/18). He makes a bit of a mention about public transit without being too critical (keep a sharp eye on this site for more news about the LTC fare increase that was just passed as soon as I receive a clarification from it’s General Manager). Mr. Berton pays lip-service to the creation of bicycle paths but fails to point out the lousy job that the city does of maintaining them or clearing them of ice and snow during the winter.
