London’s Anti-Pedestrian Duplicity

A report to tomorrow’s Environment and Transportation Committee discloses how staff chose to not carry out a pathways snow-clearing project in White Oaks as had been directed by City Council.

A Call for Less Secrecy

The city’s Environment and Transportation Committee received the 8th report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee this past week.

Item #6 of the report states: “AWAC reviewed and received a communication dated October 28, 2008 from L. White, Leader, B. MacKay, Canadian Representative, Born Free Foundation United with the Animal Protection Institute, and heard a verbal delegation from Ms White, with respect to an approach to the deer population in the Sifton Bog and surrounding areas.” Continue Reading

Silence When it Suits the LFP

This is the rejoinder that I just submitted in response to Paul Berton’s recent editorial (”Silence Unacceptable on Springbank Dam”; LFP; 2008/11/01): Continue Reading

Pedestrians Are Being Shafted

You’ll recall that I applied to be a pedestrian representative on the city’s Transportation Advisory Committee and on the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Committee. There were vacant positions on both, and the city subsequently even went so far as to advertise the need to fill a lot of positiions. I was invited by the Chair of CSCPC to apply to that committee, and my name was put forward … Continue Reading

LTC 2007 Annual Report

The LTC’s 2007 Annual Report was presented to ETC at it’s 2008/04/21 meeting. I recorded the presentation as best I could. Council seems unwilling to address the audio problems. Despite all of my emails and my submission to the Governance Task Force. You’d almost think that they prefer to operate without scrutiny.

Alt-Journalism, London Style

Paul Berton over at the London Free Press likes to harp about the professionalism of his industry and to make aspersions about citizen journalism, but I think the fact is he’s scared. Scared that his shrunken workforce is no longer capable of turning out a quality NEWSpaper, and scared that the local online community is rapidly evolving into a force that can.

Evolution Part #2

Hard on the heels of the previous ‘toon which Clay Butler suggests is ‘proof that we didn’t evolve from apes,’ an A-Channel report and accompanying video which supports that premise. Apparently, our species is not evolved enough to deserve such intelligent anscestry.

Skewed Priorities?

$265,000?
That’s how much some senior members of City Hall staff and some members of Council appear to be willing to pay to “beautify” the pollution plant/ waste depot that’s on Oxford Street West.
I’m not opposed to visually enhancing our community. In fact, I’ve advocated for graffitti removal, public art, regulation re abandoned grocery shopping carts, etc. But is this a good deal for the money? … Continue Reading
